Martino Flynn, LLC and McDougall Communications take home top awards.

Rochester, N.Y., Thursday, June 18, 2015 — More than 200 public relations professionals gathered this evening for the annual PRism Awards at the Rochester Museum and Science Center. The award show, presented by the Rochester chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), celebrated the best public relations elements and campaigns from this past year.

Organizations from a variety of industries jockeyed for top awards, including professionals from local agencies, colleges, corporations and nonprofits. In total, 52 first place PRism awards and 43 second-place Awards of Excellence were presented in the corporate and non-profit categories.

“The PRism awards show is the highlight of the year for many PR professionals in our area,” said Richard Pulvino, PRSA Rochester Chapter President. “Our chapter hosts one of the top PRSA award shows in the northeast, which is a testament to our outstanding membership and the industry’s continued growth here in Rochester.”

The following organizations won the most coveted honor – Best in Show.

  • Martino Flynn, LLC took home the corporate Best in Show honor for their “Detangling Like a Pro” integrated campaign. The campaign helped change consumer perception and increase consumer trial of ShowSheen, a specialty horse coat product produced by W.F. Young. The campaign included a “Watch the Pros Ride” sweepstakes, and used the 40th anniversary of ShowSheen as a proof point of the product’s effectiveness. Point of sale, social media, and digital and traditional advertising were used. The result—more than 7,700 entries into the sweepstakes and year over year sales increase for the ShowSheen brand.


  • McDougall Communications was awarded the non-profit Best in Show award for their National War Plane Museum event – Take Flight: The Return to Normandy. The campaign helped secure nearly $200,000 in funding to allow the plane and its crew to represent the U.S. during 70th Anniversary commemorations in France. Over the course of four months, the team’s work resulted in feature coverage from national news outlets such as New York Times, NBC Nightly News, CBS Evening News, Fox News Channel, BBC, and the Associated Press.

The following professionals also received individual awards:

  • Carl Langsenkamp, Director, Global Analyst and Public Relations, Xerox Corp., received the Sharleen M. Bruse award. This award, only given out every two years, recognizes a PRSA member with more than 15 years experience who has attained a high level of professional achievement, is active in community service and has helped advance the career development of other members.


  • Shannon Lappin, Public Relations Specialist, Manning & Napier, received the Rising Star award. This award recognizes a public relations professional with no more than seven years of experience in the field who demonstrates exceptional competence, skill and leadership potential.


Fickle 93.3 FM’s Dino Kay and Radio 95.1 & KISS 106.7’s Pauly Guglielmo kicked the night off with a celebrity bartending happy-hour, raising funds for the Charles S. Smith Student Scholarship. The father-son duo of Don Alhart, WHAM TV anchor, and Jon Alhart, Vice President of Social and Digital Media at Dixon Schwabl, emceed the award program for the fourth year running.
